Do you wish that Sites were developed to preserve and foster Nature as a primary focus of a design?
Victoria Meyers architect's (hMa) design for 'Absolute Zero' - a 550-acre campus in Claverack, New York for the Won Buddhist USA organization, was developed to create a zero-carbon footprint, and to limit building on the site to have minimum impact. 350 acres of the site were set aside as a permanent Nature preserve. Construction was limited to a two-acre area, an area where there had been a rock quarry. The site was a Brownfield, and the road into the site was limited to a previously existing road. The site includes 5 buildings, all built to LEED standards (although LEED certification was not part of the design process) using state-of-the-art Green technologies, including a central Bio-Mass furnace and Solar Hot Water Panels to generate most of the heat for the buildings; a Solar Field installed to generate most of the site electricity; and all materials purchased based on Green certification standards. 'Absolute Zero' was recognized for its excellence in design with a Design Award from Faith and Form Magazine in 2010.

Do you feel an ethical commitment to Green Technologies and Sustainable Development?
hMa's design for Battery Park City's North Neighborhood included over two million square feet of Green Construction - for which hMa wrote all of the construction guidelines. This includes the Solaire, the first LEED (Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design) Hi-Rise Residential Tower built in the United States. Battery Park City's North Neighborhood was recognized for it's excellence in Environmental Design and Master Planning with the 2010 Heritage Award from the Urban Land Institute.

Do you hope for a future where your children can experience and appreciate Natural Landscapes?
Victoria Meyers architect believes that fostering a love of Nature begins at home. This is why hMa emphasizes the use of Natural materials in our residential projects, and why hMa plays an active role in designing site plans and Landscapes for our residential projects that connect homes to Nature. Holley House in Garrison, New York has been recognized for its Natural Design through publications throughout the world. Holley House was featured as the Metropolitan Home of the Month in their July 2007 issue.

Do you wish that buildings were designed to support Nature and not fight against it?
From the beginning of their practice, Victoria Meyers architect was an early adaptor, designing world-class modern and Natural buildings and Landscapes. The first project that thrust the firm into the National spotlight was their Chattanooga Nature Interpretive Center, designed in 1990. More recently, the firm's 'Bridge-Studio' (in construction) was designed to place a distinctively modern residential building onto a unique natural site on a cliff overlooking the Delaware River, near Easton, Pa.. The project is generating international editorial interest.
